Requirements for Registration

  • the FE (EI) exam +
  • an ABET accredited B.S. engineering degree (or an acceptable equivalent) (or a B.S. degree in engineering, engineering technology, or a related science that is not ABET accredited plus a graduate degree in a curriculum that is ABET accredited at the undergraduate level) +
  • 4 full years of qualifying engineering experience subsequent to graduation +
  • the PPE (PE) exam

BOTH exams are required regardless of extensive education or experience or being registered without exam(s) in another state. This has been a requirement of state law since 1970.

We do not offer temporary registration. At the end of each month all completely documented comity applications are reviewed by a committee; those that meet all the requirements are approved for licensure. Therefore it is entirely possible to receive a license within a month, depending upon date of application and if one actively pursues the necessary paperwork.

Rule 4.04 states, "The certificate of registration for a Professional Engineer comity registrant will bear the date the application is approved by the Board in accordance with Board procedures." Therefore, an applicant is not allowed to offer services, respond to a request for proposals, or begin a project until he has been issued a license to practice in the state of Mississippi.
