Professional Land Surveyor

Licensure by Examination

An applicant may qualify for certification as a Land Surveyor by meeting the educational, experience and examination requirements specified in one of the following subsections of O.C.G.A. 43-15-13:

O.C.G.A. 43-15-13(1)

  1. Has obtained certification by the Board as a Land Surveyor-in-Training having graduated with a bachelors degree in a curriculum approved by the Board; and
  2. Has acquired not less than four years of acceptable land surveying experience; (which may include up to six months experience credit for co-op work), and
  3. Has made application to the Board and submitted the requisite, non-refundable, fee of $30.00 to the Board (made payable to the Secretary of State); and
  4. Has made application to Applied Measurement Professionals, Inc. (AMP) and submitted the appropriate requisite fee (see fee schedule) to AMP (made payable to AMP/GA SURV); and
  5. Has passed a written examination in the principles and practice of land surveying and a Georgia State Specific examination.

O.C.G.A. 43-15-13(2)

  1. Has obtained certification by the Board as a Land Surveyor-in-Training having earned an associate degree, or its equivalent, in a curriculum approved by the Board and having acquired not less than two years of acceptable land surveying experience; and
  2. Has acquired an additional four years of acceptable land surveying experience; (which may include up to six months experience credit for co-op work), and
  3. Has made application to the Board and submitted the requisite, non-refundable, fee of $30.00 to the Board (made payable to the Secretary of State); and
  4. Has made application to Applied Measurement Professionals, Inc. (AMP) and submitted the appropriate requisite fee (see fee schedule) to AMP (made payable to AMP/GA SURV); and
  5. Has passed a written examination in the principles and practice of land surveying and a Georgia State Specific examination.

O.C.G.A. 43-15-13(3)

  1. Has obtained certification by the Board as a Land Surveyor-in-Training having earned a high school diploma, or its equivalent, and having acquired not less than four years of acceptable land surveying experience; and
  2. Has acquired an additional four years of acceptable land surveying experience; and
  3. Has made application to the Board and submitted the requisite, non-refundable, fee of $30.00 to the Board (made payable to the Secretary of State); and
  4. Has made application to Applied Measurement Professionals, Inc. (AMP) and submitted the appropriate requisite fee (see fee schedule) to AMP (made payable to AMP/GA SURV); and
  5. Has passed a written examination in the principles and practice of land surveying and a Georgia State Specific examination.

Licensure by Comity

An applicant may qualify for certification as a Land Surveyor by comity if the applicant:

  1. Is currently licensed to practice land surveying in another state, territory or possession of the United States by having passed written examinations of not less than eight hours and taken prior to July 1, 1968; or
  2. Is currently licensed to practice land surveying in another state, territory or possession of the United States by having passed written examinations of not less than sixteen hours and taken prior to July 1, 1978; or
  3. Is currently licensed to practice land surveying in another state, territory or possession of the United States under qualifications comparable to those prescribed in O.C.G.A. 43-15; and
  4. Has made application to the Board and submitted the requisite, non-refundable, fee of $70.00 to the Board (made payable to the Secretary of State); and
  5. Has made application to Applied Measurement Professionals, Inc. (AMP) and submitted the appropriate requisite fee (see fee schedule) to AMP (made payable to AMP/GA SURV); and
  6. Has passed a four-hour written examination on hydrology and a four hour written examination on the legal aspects of land surveying in Georgia.

Licensure by Examination

An applicant may qualify for certification as a Professional Engineer by meeting the educational, experience and examination requirements specified in one of the following subsections of O.C.G.A. 43-15-9:

O.C.G.A. 43-15-9(1)

  1. Has obtained certification by the Board as an Engineer-in-Training having graduated in an approved engineering curriculum of not less than four years; and
  2. Has acquired not less than four years of acceptable engineering experience (which may include up to six months experience credit for co-op work); and
  3. Has made application to the Board and submitted the requisite, non-refundable, fee of $30.00 to the Board (made payable to the Secretary of State); and
  4. Has made application to Applied Measurement Professionals, Inc. (AMP) and submitted the requisite fee of $130.00 to AMP (made payable to AMP/GA ENGR); and
  5. Has passed a written examination in the principles and practice of engineering (professional engineer examination).

O.C.G.A. 43-15-9(2)

  1. Has obtained certification by the Board as an Engineer-in-Training having graduated in an approved engineering, engineering technology, or related science curriculum of not less than four years; and
  2. Has acquired not less than seven years of acceptable engineering experience (which may include up to six months experience credit for co-op work); and
  3. Has made application to the Board and submitted the requisite, non-refundable, fee of $30.00 to the Board (made payable to the Secretary of State); and
  4. Has made application to Applied Measurement Professionals, Inc. (AMP) and submitted the requisite fee of $130.00 to AMP (made payable to AMP/GA ENGR); and
  5. Has passed a written examination in the principles and practice of engineering (professional engineer examination).

O.C.G.A. 43-15-9(3)

  1. Has obtained certification by the Board as an Engineer-in-Training having acquired not less than eight years of acceptable engineering experience; and
  2. Has acquired not less than seven additional years of acceptable engineering experience; and
  3. Has made application to the Board and submitted the requisite, non-refundable, fee of $30.00 to the Board (made payable to the Secretary of State); and
  4. Has made application to Applied Measurement Professionals, Inc. (AMP) and submitted the requisite fee of $130.00 to AMP (made payable to AMP/GA ENGR); and
  5. Has passed a written examination in the principles and practice of engineering (professional engineer examination).

O.C.G.A. 43-15-9(4) [Waiver of FE/EIT Examination]

  1. Has graduated in an engineering or related science curriculum of not less than four academic years; and
  2. Has acquired not less than sixteen years of acceptable engineering experience of which at least eight years have been in responsible charge of important engineering work. (six months experience credit may be creditable for co-op work); and
  3. Has made application to the Board and submitted the requisite, non-refundable, fee of $30.00 to the Board (made payable to the Secretary of State); and
  4. Has made application to Applied Measurement Professionals, Inc. (AMP) and submitted the requisite fee of $130.00 to AMP (made payable to AMP/GA ENGR); and
  5. Has passed a written examination in the principles and practice of engineering (professional engineer examination).

Licensure by Comity

An applicant may qualify for certification as a Professional Engineer by comity if the applicant:

  1. Is currently licensed to practice professional engineering in another state, territory or possession of the United States; and
  2. Provides adequate evidence that, at the time the applicant was so licensed, the applicant met requirements that meet now current Georgia law; or
  3. Was licensed as a Professional Engineer on or prior to July 1, 1956; and
  4. Has made application to the Board and submitted the requisite, non-refundable, fee of $70.00 to the Board (made payable to the Secretary of State).
