Professional Land Surveyor

Registration As A Professional Land Surveyor By Endorsement With 1.5 hour Colorado State Specific Exam:

12-25-214(1)(a) Licensed in good standing in another jurisdiction. Qualifications must be substantially equivalent to those currently required of applicants, or if at the time of initial licensure met the requirements for licensure then in existence under Colorado law.

Registration As A Professional Land Surveyor By Education, Experience And Examination:

12-25-214(2)(a) (1)(A) Graduate from a board-approved surveying curriculum of 4 or more years and have 2 years of progressive land surveying experience under the supervision of a PLS or an exempted federal employee. Must be currently enrolled as a Land Surveyor-Intern (LSI). [If not a Colorado LSI or transferring LSI from another state, must take and pass the Fundamentals of Land Surveying (FLS) exam before being allowed to sit for the PLS exam.]

(II)(A) Graduate from a non board-approved surveying curriculum of 4 or more years and have 4 years of progressive land surveying experience of which at least 2 years must be under the supervision of PLS or an exempted federal employee. Must be currently enrolled as a Land Surveyor-Intern (LSI). [If not a Colorado LSI or transferring LSI from another state, must take and pass the Fundamentals of Land Surveying (FLS) exam before being allowed to sit for the PLS exam.]

(III)(A) Graduate from a Board-approved 2 year surveying curriculum or from a 4 year engineering curriculum which included the equivalent of 24 semester hours in surveying coursework as approved by the board; and have 6 years of progressive land surveying experience of which 4 years shall have been under the supervision of a PLS or an exempt federal employee. Must be currently enrolled as a Land Surveyor-Intern (LSI). [If not a Colorado LSI or transferring LSI from another state, must take and pass the Fundamentals of Land Surveying (FLS) exam before being allowed to sit for the PLS exam.]

The Board may allow an applicant to substitute the satisfactory completion of one academic year in a curriculum approved by the Board for one year of experience. The substitution of education for experience shall not exceed three years.

Registration As A Professional Land Surveyor By Experience And Examination:

12-25-214(4)(a) Graduate from high school or its equivalent. Have 10 years of progressive land surveying experience of which at least 6 years must have been under the supervision of a PLS or an exempted federal employee. Must be currently enrolled as a Land Surveyor-Intern (LSI). [If not a Colorado LSI or transferring LSI from another state, must take and pass the Fundamentals of Land Surveying (FLS) exam before being allowed to sit for the PLS exam.]

Certification As A Land Surveyor-Intern By Endorsement Without Further Examination:

12-25-212 (1)(a) Enrolled in good standing in another jurisdiction requiring qualifications substantially equivalent to those currently required of applicants or if, at the time of initial enrollment in such jurisdiction, such applicant met the requirements for enrollment then in existence under Colorado law.

Certification As A Land Surveyor-Intern By Graduation And Examination:

12-25-212 (2)(a) Graduate from a 4-year Board-approved surveying curriculum.

Certification As A Land Surveyor-Intern By Education, Experience And Examination:

12-25-212 (3)(a) Graduate from high school or the equivalent and have a cumulative record of 2 years or more of progressive land surveying experience, of which a maximum of 1 year of educational credit may be substituted.

Comity Registration As A Professional Engineer Without Further Examination:

12-25-114 (1)(a) Licensed in good standing in another jurisdiction. Qualifications must be substantially equivalent to those currently required of applicants OR if at the time of initial licensure met the requirements for licensure then in existence in Colorado.

Registration As A Professional Engineer By Graduation, Experience And Examination:

12-25-114 (2)(a)(I)(A) Graduate from a board-approved engineering curriculum of 4 years or more (ABET) AND have 8 years of progressive engineering experience of which education is a part. Must be currently enrolled as an Engineer-Intern (EI). [If not a Colorado EI or transferring EI from another state, must take and pass the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam before being allowed to sit for the PE exam. Can apply forboth FE and PE exams at the same time; however, will qualify for EI under Section 12-25-112 (2)(a)(I).]

12-25-114 (2)(a)(II)(A) Graduate from a board-approved engineering technology curriculum of 4 years or more (ABET) AND have 10 years of progressive engineering experience of which education is a part. Must be currently enrolled as an EI. [If not Colorado EI or transferring EI from another state, must take and pass the FE exam before being allowed to sit for the PE exam. Can apply for both FE and PE exams at the same time; however, will qualify for FE exam under Section 12-25-112 (3)(a)(I).]

12-25-114 (2)(a)(III)(A) Graduate from an engineering curriculum of 4 years or more not approved by the board OR from a related science curriculum of 4 years or more AND have 10 years of progressive engineering experience of which education is a part. Must be currently enrolled as an EI. [If not Colorado EI or transferring EI from another state, must take and pass the FE exam before being allowed to sit for the PE exam. Can apply for both FE and PE exams at the same time; however, will qualify for FE exam under Section 12-25-112 (3)(a)(II)(A).]

12-25-114 (2)(a)(IV)(A) Graduate from an engineering curriculum of 4 years or more OR from a related science curriculum of 4 years or more. Must have 20 years of progressive engineering experience of which education may be a part. Waive EI requirement.

Registration As A Professional Engineer By Experience And Examination:

12-25-114 (3)(a)(I) Must have 12 years of progressive engineering experience of which educational study may be a part. Must be enrolled as an EI. [If not Colorado EI or transferring EI from another state, must take and pass the FE exam before being allowed to sit for the PE exam. Can apply for both FE and PE exams at the same time; however, will qualify for EI exam under Section 12-25-112 (4)(a).]

Enrollment Requirements For An Engineer-Intern

Comity Enrollment As An Engineer-Intern Without Further Examination:

12-25-112 (1)(a) Enrolled in good standing in another jurisdiction. Qualifications must be substantially equivalent to those currently required of applicants OR if at the time of initial enrollment, met the requirements for enrollment then in existence under Colorado law.

Enrollment As An Engineer-Intern By Graduation And Examination:

12-25-112 (2)(a)(I) Graduate from a board-approved engineering curriculum of 4 years or more (ABET).

12-25-112 (2)(a)(II) Have senior status in a board-approved engineering curriculum of 4 years or more (ABET).

Enrollment As An Engineer-Intern By Graduation, Experience And Examination:

12-25-112 (3)(a)(I) Graduate from a board-approved engineering technology curriculum of 4 years or more (ABET) and have 2 years of progressive engineering experience. May take FE exam after graduation prior to completion of experience. Engineer-Intern enrollment will be awarded after the applicant possesses a total of 6 years of progressive engineering experience, of which educational study may be a part.

12-25-112 (3)(a)(II)(A) Graduate from an engineering curriculum of 4 years or more not approved by the board OR from a related science curriculum of 4 years or more and have 2 years of progressive engineering experience. May take FE exam after graduation prior to completion of experience. Engineer-Intern enrollment will be awarded after the applicant possesses a total of 6 years of progressive engineering experience, of which educational study may be a part.

Enrollment As An Engineer-Intern By Experience And Examination:

12-25-112 (4)(a) Graduate from high school or its equivalent. Have a minimum of 6 years progressive engineering experience of which educational study may be a part prior to taking the FE exam and becoming enrolled.
